Android, Linux, and Fanboys

Typical click-bait content with a misleading title:

81% of all Smartphones are powered by Linux

Powered by Linux? Linux pride?

Many, perhaps most of the apps for the Android operating system, which is built on top of the free/libre Linux kernel, are closed source. The Android operating system was designed from the very beginning to be a data mining platform.

I am pragmatic and no purist. People should use whatever operating system they want. Yet I am baffled why free/libre advocates continue wetting themselves over Android — simply because the data mining operating system uses a Linux kernel.
