Unable to Suspend to RAM Redux

I am unable to suspend my desktop system. The motherboard uses an Nvidia graphics chip set. I have tested this with both the nouveau and proprietary drivers. The system suspends fine but when resuming results in a black screen of death and an unusable system. Alternate consoles are unavailable. The only solution is a hard reboot or power down.

My Thinkpad T400 laptop does not have this problem. The laptop uses an Intel graphics chip set and laptops are designed to suspend and resume. I have one desktop with an Intel chip set and that system resumes as expected.

The problem does not seem distro-specific.

More WTF fodder?
