Debian 10 Boot Errors

While testing Debian 10 in VirtualBox I saw the following messages with each start:

    ata2 master: Unknown device
    ata2 slave: Unknown device
    ata3 master: Unknown device
    ata3 slave: Unknown device

Additionally I noticed the boot time was slow along with a boat load of SATA link down messages up to ata30.

After some head scratching I found the VirtualBox Storage->Port Count configuration was set to 30. Changing that number to 3 resolved both boot issues. I have no idea how the number was set so high.
