Using Proprietary Software

I have nothing against using closed source or proprietary software. I prefer not to use proprietary software for specific reasons.

Much if not most proprietary software is designed to invade privacy and mine data. The idea of monetizing software by targeting users as the product needs to die.

Getting bugs fixed usually costs more money or a forced update to the next major release.

Often bugs are not fixed as a cost of doing business, but as a way to manipulate customers into buying the next major release.

Often proprietary software is designed to use closed data formats rather than open standards, which creates vendor lock-in.

Often proprietary software is designed to install bloatware.

Often proprietary software is over priced.

Trusting proprietary software is challenging because the sources are closed.

Often customers are not well served because profit is the sole motive rather than creating products that provide long-term mutual benefit.
