Smoking Rope

Out of the blue one day the following error message appeared in a terminal window on the office desktop:

cx18: Unable to find blank work order form to schedule incoming mailbox command processing

The error message is found in the Linux kernel source code in drivers/media/pci/cx18/cx18-mailbox.c.

While the cx18 module is loaded on the office desktop for a respective TV capture card, not once has this error message appeared in more than a dozen years using the card.

Such error messages are head scratching territory. Exactly how is this error message helpful or insightful to users? What does a “work order form” have to do with any of this?

Any of that rope left over for the rest of us?
