Atheros alx Driver

Some years I ago I purchased a ASRock N68C-GS4 FX motherboard to build a dedicated file server.

Later I abandoned the idea and merged the file server services with the office desktop.

Often I have regretted buying the AsRock board. The board comes with an Atheros AR8171/QCA8171 network interface chip set using the alx driver.

The driver never was well supported.

Packet counting has been fixed but wake-on-lan remains unpatched upstream. Rather remarkable for a bug report submitted 8 years ago. Patches are available so the question is why have the patches not been merged?
