Knowing Enough to be Dangerous

An unhealthy habit of many subject matter experts is ridiculing less knowledgeable people. This happens in all walks of life yet seems prevalent in technical fields where much knowledge is required.

This is unfortunate because everybody starts as a newbie. Everybody’s knowledge evolves and progresses at different rates.

I've been guilty of this unsavory behavior.

I need only remind myself of a personal event that such mockery is unwarranted.

When I was six years of age I proudly knew how to use the vacuum cleaner.

I knew nothing about electricity — until the first time I plugged in the cleaner by holding the metal prongs.

I knew just enough to be dangerous.
