Debian Ideology and Installations

Among free/libre software users, Debian users are known as advocates of free software. Non-free software is available but is not a default configuration when Debian is installed.

The initial lack of available non-free software creates obvious challenges for unaware users. The most common questions in any related support forum include the inability to boot, video issues, and configuring wireless networking.

While there are unofficial non-free ISO images, visiting the Debian web site does not offer immediate clues to remedy the problems.

The Debian philosophy does not help unfamiliar users.
