Disabling Thunderbird Email Accounts

Ever try to temporarily disable a Thunderbird email account?

There is no simple direct support. Automatic mail checks may be disabled with the following in the account Server Settings dialog:

  1. Check for new messages at startup
  2. Check for new messages every [X] minutes
  3. Automatically download new messages

While disabling those options is a good start, those options do not stop manual checks.

There are clunky work-arounds, such as removing the password in Preferences->Security->Passwords->Saved Passwords.

A simple and straightforward usability feature that does not exist.
