wget Logging

Years ago I wrote a shell script to monitor unexpected files and directories in the root file system. A few weeks ago the wget package was updated in Slackware. Suddenly I was seeing zero-byte wget log files in the system root (/) directory.

I don't know what had changed in wget. I had been running scripts in cron jobs for years and never had logs in the root directory. I had to update several shell scripts to send the output to /dev/null and explicitly add PATH declarations.

Free/libre software. Updates bring breakage.
