Why Package Managers Suck

A person posted an online opinion about package managers. In that article the author wrote:

The typical non-technical user is accustomed to the Windows/Mac way of installing programs: They download the binary installer, execute it, click next, next, next, and voila: they can start using the program.

In reality, often what happens to those users is:

“They download the binary installer, execute, click next, next, next, and voila: they are infected with bloatware and malware.”

As part of a proposed solution the author wrote:

How would the binary installers be distributed?

The web, mainly.

With that approach, free/libre software users then would experience the following:

“They download the binary installer, execute, click next, next, next, and voila: they are infected with bloatware and malware.”
